Umbria Holiday Rentals at 'THIS OLD CONVENT'

We just returned from our stay at the Convento Mincione, a beautifully restored convent on top of a hill in rural Umbria. The apartment was huge, with two private bedrooms and baths, and a large living room and open kitchen. From the window, we could see the moon rise over the Umbrian hills... a terrific restaurant--La Cantina di Nunzio--where we ate fettuccine with duck sauce and scottoditto cooked over a wood fire. We had seen pictures of the convent on her website, but we weren't prepared for how truly beautiful it is. We definitely plan a return visit and we'll recommend it to friends.

“A very special place” 5 of 5 stars
Beautiful apartments in the most beautiful and peaceful surroundings. I cannot recommend them too highly. Each room has all modern comforts, but the renovation is extremely tasteful and fully in keeping with this ancient and characterful property. Each room has its own personality and its own antiques. The location is splendid - on the top of a hill amongst other wooded hills, standing on its own, but convenient at the same time for getting around Umbria. The highlight? Sitting out in the evening looking out over all the surrounding hills as the fireflies start to come out and dance around. We had two young children (6 months and 21 months) and they loved it, especially the beautiful pool with its own panoramic views over the countryside...

Superb quality
I have holidayed in Italy with my family more than 20 times in various locations in hotel and agriturismo accommodation; Il Convento Mincione is as good as it gets.
This ancient property has been beautifully restored and is full of character and the accommodation is of a superb quality. The charming American owner and & her daughter are on hand for advice and tips but maintain a discrete profile.
We stayed in the 2-bathroom 1+ bedroom 'honeymoon suite' (on two floors) which was spacious and packed with charm: beautiful beams, stone fireplace, oriental rugs, good lighting, well appointed bathrooms. and it had a very large private balcony with barbque and wonderful views.
The pool is a good size with secure fencing to protect your kids and there is a separate hot tub. My 12 year-old loved the 'animal' pen...rabbits/quail/various other small animal which kids are encouraged to handle & feed.
A unique property and a wonderful, relaxing location.

"Giving Tuscany a Run for Their Money!"
I've only been to Italia once before, but I have been all throughout from the Carribean Isles to Alaska looking for untouched getaways- this was what the doctor ordered!
Umbertide has dozens of festivals in the spring & summer to keep you busy, but I work extreme hours in New York & just wanted to escape it all- I choose a room with no phone, no TV, nothing to break a LONG night sleep but the smell of espresso from the patio...There was a famous actor couple there that didn't think they'd be recognized either. I went alone, but it's a place you'd wanna have your wedding...

“Glorious Sunsets by the private Oasis Pool” 5 of 5 stars
I was in the middle of an extended vaca and knowing Rome was gonna be a marathon, I needed this place to ground me.
August in Umbertide was full of festivals, mostly live classical concerts, or dance- Rufus Wainwright performed! There are several towns close by that host them, including a Jazz Fest in Perugia-AWESOME romantic city.
The convent itself sits atop a mountainside away from all mayhem. Where to you go to be invisible (but there were 2 Actors, we recognized, clearly hiding out or hiding their relationship;-) I could see why- you really get away & find solitude.
Yes there is a pool & patio ares where other guests mingle, ...i loved that my room had no computers, no TV. There was a BYOB BBQ on the first day that was fun. Everyone cooks for themselves- BUT ask about the chefs cooking lesson- ESSENTIAL to treat & impress yourself! PS Bring a car so you can get around to the other cities

5 of 5 stars Date of review: Jul 11, 2010 Perfeto! Rooms with a view. Great location to tour both Umbria and southern Tuscany. The restaurant just up the road has stunning sunsets and great value home cooking, not forgetting "claire de Luna " restaurant in montone. The convent has a real rustic charm and nothing is too much trouble for either joan or ronie. A big thanks to jacky also for the quails eggs "fantastico!!" and his excellent bbqing prowess!!

“Best Trip” 5 of 5 stars
I visited Il Mincione with my then-fiance (now husband), and it was a dream vacation. The views are stunning, and the villa itself is nothing short of majestic. Mincione seems almost effortlessly elegant, providing first-class accommodations and superb hospitality without the pretentious atmosphere that comes with most five-star resorts. The Mr. and I have visited 73 countries and our stay at Mincione is our most memorable trip. We stayed in romantic Sette and are planning a return for our 5-year reunion!

Part Two: The Honeymoon.
Destination Umbria.
...After organizing a wedding & spending four days in Venice; peace & quiet, seclusion & breathtaking natural beauty were Mike & I's idea of a Honeymoon & OMG did I find the perfect place to achieve it.

The wedding was in planning stage & I took an interest in destination Umbria for a possible Honeymoon location after seeing the film 'My House in Umbria'. Everyone knows how beautiful Tuscany is & this would have been an option too, until I fell upon Il Convento Mincione on the internet. It looked perfect & the honeymoon appartment was avaliable, so after scouting the internet for alternatives- Il Convento being about the first Googled link I'd followed & Mike being almost as indecisive as his daughter, concluding it really didn't seem to have much in the way of serious competion. Il Convento Mincione was booked...

Il Convento Mincione:

..., really good resternants etc. to make your stay a fuller experience...a stack of books on walks, art, you name it to cater to visitor's individual requirments...

Sorry we haven’t written back sooner, we’ve been so busy since we got back from honeymoon. Here is part of my speech and a few extra words:
We would like to thank (the staff for all their )hard work in helping us to arrange our wedding and making the day so special. From the first time we visited Il Convento Mincione (they) went out of her way to help us by putting us in touch with a local caterer, florist and people to help with our marriage paperwork. As soon as we saw Il Convento and it’s beautiful setting we knew we had found the perfect place to hold our celebration.
The food provided by Elizabeth and Melchiore was excellent. They offered us a number of suggestions which really helped and were very flexible when we suggested some choices of our own. The chicken cooked slowly over hot coals was a particular favourite!
Our friends and family are still saying to us almost 2 months later what a great time they had at our wedding. The day couldn’t have gone any better and we would definitely recommend Il Convento to anyone thinking of having their wedding in Umbria.

Thank you, for guiding us throughout the process and making our wedding in Umbria unforgettable. Please keep the flower pots for us, we?ll be back in the near future and pick them up then. With fondest regards, Richard and Louise. Photo by Roberto, our local photographer, taken on the Steps of the Comune di Gubbio.

Hope you are doing well! Way too much time has passed since our magnificent time in Italy, it's been three months already!
Not a day goes by without us enjoying the memories of our beautiful wedding at the Convent. Once again, we would like to thank you and Roney for excellent service. Everything went so smooth, and all your recommendations; the chefs, the holistic treatment, the hairdresser etc were everything we could hope for- and then some!!! Everyone is still talking about it, and we all want to come back one day. Don't be surprised if some of our friends and colleagues will celebrate their own wedding at your amazing convent! And of course, when ever we want to re confirm our vows, we would love to do business with you again ;)
With love,
A & F ...(still happily married:)
